New Jersey Certification Requirements
The Department of Health Office of Emergency Medical Services will send you a status letter listing your CEU's 3-4 months prior to your expiration date. If you have taken courses and they are not listed you will need to contact the program sponsor for assistance. It is the EMT's responsibility to keep an accurate record of course taken, the information should include the date, the program number, the sponsor, and the location of the course. There is no grace period beyond the expiration date to complete the requirements.
With in a 3 year certification period the EMT
must take 48 CEU's. Twenty-four are a review of the EMT curriculum, The other 24
CEU's are electives. You may take the Core CEU's in two ways. The first method
is to take a refresher course also known as Core 13 with one agency in a short
period of time. The other way is to take individual Core classes numbered 1-12
each core is 2 CEU's and they may be taken over a 3 year period of time with
many agencies.
